The truth of Shane's letter has been disputed. Rooster Teeth did not publicly acknowledge the letter but its contents were discussed within the community. Shane Newville's open letter: In May 2016, Shane Newville released An Open Letter to All Who Treasured Monty Oum, a controversial 36-page document giving a detailed personal account of his time working on RWBY and the events following Monty Oum's death.Divide between these opinions has led to increased negativity in RWBY fandom. Countering these views, it has been pointed out that Miles and Kerry worked with Monty from the beginning of the show, that the plot is still following the story that Monty planned out, and that not all change should be considered bad. These fans often blame Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross, the remaining writers, for any and all issues, accusing them of deviating from "Monty's Vision" and insulting his memory. There are frequent complaints that the quality of animation, fights, writing, design, characterization, etc. Many RWBY viewers have a negative opinion of the show post-Volume 3, after Monty Oum was no longer part of the production due to his death. He died in February 2015 from a severe allergic reaction. He gained popularity with his early Youtube series Dead Fantasy, which featured characters from Dead or Alive and Final Fantasy. And that was that.Monty Oum was an American web-based animator best known for his animated series RWBY. They escorted me back to collect my things but they had already removed the computers and my personalhard drives and would not return them until they finished archiving them all. Without explanation or warning I was brought to the office where I was given a speech about my performance not being that great. I was lied to and totally caught off guard. It made no sense to anyone who knew me and what I was dealing with. I imagine Rooster Teeth knew this about me and chose to let me go (for whatever reason they decided) in the middle of working on the last fight. Scenes which, several times, got completely cut or changed so that they no longer had any relevance, or just way less of an impact.Īs much as I wanted to leave throughout 2015, I was still committed to trying my best and not quitting until my job was complete. It was very discouraging, among many other things, but I still looked forward to doing Monty proud and finishing his scenes. At times I had to animate scenes without the assets, then do it all over again when they were given to me later, often last minute or close to the due date. This meant more time spent trying to make everything fit the new, “proper”, way, and leaving less time for making cool stuff. I was not allowed to work the way I did with Monty, but was instead pushed to meet the new standards- effectively doubling or tripling the amount of work I had to do. 2) To do what I could to ensure every bit of Monty’s finished and unfinished work still made it into the show intact. In July 2014, Fry appeared on stage with Monty Python on the opening. I was still supporting my family though as the main income provider, and because I cared so much about honoring Monty I had 2 reasons for spending 7 months alone in Austin, TX: 1) To provide for my family. Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English actor, broadcaster, comedian, director. It was difficult for her to deal with me, my issues, and the insane amount of work I took on. It was a long 4 months of politics and fighting to protect Monty’s legacy, as we cared about him and his vision more than we cared about the company selling its IP and making bank. After Rooster Teeth closed the door in her face, she moved to LA to be around people who loved and supported her. Sheena was not allowed to continue working on RWBY. He spent more time at home working with her at his side than he did at the office, hoping to bring RWBY back on track to the way he wanted to tell the story. For closeto a year both he and she worked together on RWBY Volumes 2 & 3 (herself unofficially and uncredited). Monty met one of the greatest women on earth (Sheena Duquette) and got married. Working with him was really my only reason for being at Rooster Teeth. Regardless of what follows I am forever grateful for that. After years of teaching myself, loads of practice, picking his brain, and taking his advice, I eventually got a job that allowed me to work with him and get paid for it. I started going for it anyway and met Monty Oum, who helped the crap out of me. I had big dreams for a long time but never believed in myself.
